The history of Women's College is entwined with the history of  Women education in undivided Cachar district after independence.  Many intellectuals and social workers of that period thus felt a need  to open a college exclusively to cater for the higher education needs  of the women.

Women's College, Silchar was established in 1963 and is now  affiliated to Assam University, Silchar - a Central University. It has  been accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council  and is recognized by U.G.C. under Section 12F and 12(B).

The Sangrahalay is open to public membership.

Reading room facility is available.
